A popular Medina County charter, Hondo is located just outside of San Antonio roughly halfway between San Antonio and Uvalde. Although notes from here aren't particularly rare when going off census figures, comparably graded examples with strong eye appeal are a scarce sight. Serial number 5035B.
'Hondo' is also the title of the classic 1953 John Wayne western in 3D color, based on a short story by Louis L'Amour. The film 'Hondo' itself was a key plot device in 1994's Season 8 Episode 24 of the popular television program Married... with Children.
We've no way of knowing if Hondo, Texas was the original inspiration for the name of John Wayne's character, but this 120+ year old $10 banknote neatly ties in mid-20th Century film and late-20th Century television popular culture.
